Audio Wave Forms

Без имени-1Без имени-2

The texture or audiowave form for each track is always unique, so using Adobe Audition I was looking at textures that each track of chosen music genre representative makes as an audio wave. On the screenshot above It clearly seen that heavy music such as metal or dub step has more denser texture then others like Pop music or Hip-hop. Pop music shows more difficult composition while Hip-hop track looks rhythmic and monotonous.

Hip-Hop posters and album covers

Examining HipHop Culture. Since hiphop emerged from the South Bronx in the 1970s, it has become an international, multi-billion-dollar phenomenon. It has grown to encompass more than just rap music—hiphop has created a culture that incorporates ethnicity, art, politics, fashion, technology and urban life.

While keeping much of its original fan base, hip-hop music and culture have become popular among mainstream consumers—particularly suburban youth. Some believe that as commercial and “gangsta” rap emerged, so did lyrics that glorify drugs, violence and misogyny. Many artists who choose, instead, to feature socially conscious and politically oriented lyrics are considered alternative or underground.

“I’d argue that when people think of hip-hop, pretty quickly they think of bling, of watches or cars or jewels or private jets. They think of success and its fruits, and the triumphant figures who are picking that fruit. This linkage isn’t limited to hip-hop — all of American celebrity, to some degree, is based on showing what you can buy — but it’s stronger there.”

Pop Music posters and album covers

Pop music, often called simply pop, is contemporary music and a common type of popular music (distinguished from classical or art music and from folk music. The term does not refer specifically to a single genre or sound, and its meaning is different depending on the time and place. Within popular music, “pop music” is often distinguished from other subgenres by stylistic traits such as a danceable rhythm or beat, simple melodies and a repeating structure which are reminiscent of the songs of vocalists such as Karen Carpenter and Roberta Flack. Pop songlyrics are often emotional, relating to love or dancing.

Pop music may include elements of rock, hip hop, reggae, dance, R&B, jazz, electronic, and sometimes folk music and various other styles. For example, in the 1920s–1950s pop music drew influence mainly from jazz, beginning in the 1950s from rock and rhythm and blues (R&B), and since the 1980s, from hip hop. The broad appeal of pop music is seen to distinguish it from more specific types of popular music, and pop music performers and recordings are among the best-selling and most widely known in many regions of the world.

Electronic/Dub Step posters and album covers

It’s 2015 and no one can disagree that electronic music is alive and thriving in the U.S. More and more we’re getting radio hits from the likes of Zedd, Calvin Harris, and David Guetta that are creeping into the mainstream music culture. Although it is breaking into the mainstream, to say that electronic music is a new phenomenon wouldn’t be correct. There have been elements of electronic dating back to 70’s disco and the 80’s with The Talking Heads being a great example.

However, there is one area of electronic music that hasn’t been dragged into the mainstream and tainted by attempting to appeal to the lowest common denominator, Dubstep. If you’ll excuse the minor blip of Skrillex winning a bunch of Grammy’s in 2010, there hasn’t been much success with dubstep in the mainstream despite it’s growing popularity within the scene. There can be a lot of debate about why, but we feel that this Bassnectar quote succinctly explains the polarizing effect of Dubstep,

Texture should be digital looking.

As the Dubstep music is digital, saying other words it is electronic, and as we know electricity color is blue. Thats the reason of choosing blue color for Dubstep speakers design.

Rock/Metal/Alternative Posters and album covers

Heavy music is usually associates with fire or darkness, as music is “Heavy” it means it has aggressive way of delivering a music and message. Looking at poster and album covers of the most popular heavy music artists we usually can see the same color palettes and similar stylistics of the design. In terms of texture comes to mind something scratchy or acute, so for my design I chose rust texture.

and the colors I will use for rock genre visualization is Black/Red/Grey/Orange/White
